Types of Retainers We Offer

- Hawley Retainers: These are made of a durable acrylic base and a thin metal wire. They are adjustable and very long-lasting.
- Fixed (Bonded) Retainers: A small wire is bonded to the back of your teeth. It is invisible to others and provides 24/7 protection against shifting.

I went to Dr. Bruno to get new top and bottom retainers- a plastic retainer for the top, and a plastic and permanent wire retainer for the bottom. Her staff was awesome- they happily answered my questions/concerns and offered genuine advice on what type of retainers would be best for my teeth, given that it has been ten years since I've had braces. They knew exactly what they were doing and took the time to make sure the retainers were made correctly. I felt very comfortable in their care.

Do I have to wear a retainer forever?
To keep your teeth perfectly aligned, some level of lifetime retention is recommended. Most patients wear their retainers every night. Over time, Dr. Bruno may suggest a reduced schedule, but "nighttime for a lifetime" is the best way to ensure your results last!
How long do teeth retainers last?
The lifespan of a retainer depends on the type and how well you care for it. Removable clear retainers typically last 1 to 3 years before they need replacement. Hawley retainers can last much longer if handled with care.
What happens if I lose my retainer?
If your retainer is lost or broken, contact us immediately. Teeth can begin to shift in just a few days. We can use your digital records from the iTero™ scanner, our precision planning tool, to create a new one quickly.
How do I clean my retainer?
Rinse your retainer with cool water every time you remove it. Use a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive soap to gently clean the surfaces. Avoid hot water, as it can warp the material and change the fit of your design.
