Are Ceramic Braces a Good Choice for Me?
When considering orthodontic treatment for yourself or your child, you may have wondered if ceramic braces are a good choice. Both silver and ceramic braces straighten, realign, and adjust teeth, so it can be difficult to choose. Understanding the differences between silver and ceramic braces, as well as some of the benefits for each option, will help you determine if ceramic braces are right for you or your child. This article will provide important information based on frequent questions that our clients typically ask when considering braces.
Ceramic braces cost
While ceramic braces usually cost a marginal amount more than metal braces, it’s important to note that both metal and ceramic braces are typically covered by dental insurance. At Bruno Orthodontics, our friendly staff can help you understand if your specific dental insurance provides coverage for orthodontic treatment and how much you will have to pay out-of-pocket. We offer financing as well and can help you find the right payment plan that works for you.You can also leverage your Flexible Spending Account (FSA), which allows you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for treatment. No matter which option you choose, your payment options remain the same for both metal and ceramic braces.
Ceramic braces vs metal braces
Most importantly, both metal and ceramic braces can effectively correct a wide range of orthodontic issues.
Traditional metal braces are made from stainless steel with brackets that attach to each tooth using an orthodontic adhesive. An archwire goes through each bracket and rubber bands wrap around each bracket to keep the wire in place. As you move through your treatment plan, you or your child will visit the orthodontist on a regular schedule to have the braces adjusted. The orthodontist will replace the rubber bands and adjust the archwire as needed to help guide the teeth in the correct position.
Ceramic braces provide the same type of results as metal braces, but they use clear or tooth-colored brackets and archwire. The primary benefit of ceramic braces is they are less noticeable, making them a great choice for those who are concerned about the appearance of metal braces. Oftentimes, our adult patients love ceramic braces because of their low profile.
Clear braces vs Invisalign
Invisalign is a bit different than clear braces and here’s why. Clear braces are attached to teeth in a similar fashion as traditional silver braces and are not removable. Conversely, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners that slip on over the teeth. The aligners must remain in your mouth for at least 22 hours a day. While being able to take them out is convenient, keeping the aligners in all day with the exception of eating, drinking, or attending to dental hygiene can be challenging for some of our clients.
Ceramic braces with color
Our clients love that they can choose from a wide variety of rubber band colors. The colored rubber bands offer a great opportunity to showcase your personality. A few fun themes include school spirit, sports teams, and holidays. Our teenage patients especially love using the colored rubber bands. For those who want their treatment to remain discreet, clear bands are also available.
